AOA Board Meeting held in Tokyo

The board of directors meeting of the Asia-Oceania Association (AOA), a regional association of the International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation (ICMIF), was held on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 in Tokyo, Japan Zenkyoren has become a host organization.

 

 

All the directors, Tamotsu Shozui, Chair (Zenkyoren, Japan), P. A. Kiriwandeniya, Vice Chair (Sanasa Insurance Company Ltd, Sri Lanka), May S. Dawat, Vice Chair (CARD MBA, the Philippines), and Chris Black, Director (FMG, New Zealand), were present.

 

 

At this meeting, a draft of AOA’s action plan for 2018 and 2019, which will be proposed to the AOA Biennial General Meeting to be held on October 18, 2017 in London, U.K., and other items have been discussed.  The AOA Biennial General Meeting will be held at the same time and place with the ICMIF Biennial Conference.

One of the topics was the 5-5-5 Mutual Microinsurance Strategy, a project to promote microinsurance (Note) in the developing countries, which ICMIF is strengthening its efforts on and the United Nations pays attention to as a means of cutting off the chain of poverty.  The directors have actively exchanged their views on possible activities by which AOA deepens cooperation with its member organizations and related parties concerning microinsurance.

Note: Microinsurance generally refers to low-cost insurance products designed for low-income households in developing countries.

In addition, Shaun Tarbuck, ICMIF’s Chief Executive, has participated in the meeting through the Internet.  Both Mr. Shozui and Mr. Black are also serving as a director of ICMIF.
